Utilities & Transportation
The utilities industry has changed dramatically in
recent years. Privatisation, deregulation and
competition have resulted in many mergers and
acquisitions. These companies have large and diverse
customer base; geographically disparate assets; a
sizable workforce; and a critical role in the national
infrastructure. Many has resorted to geospatial
technology to protect their assets, improve customer
service and ensure the safety of employees and the
public, while at the same time improve efficiency,
drive down costs, and deliver shareholder value. In
transportation sector, geospatial data are foundation
for relevant and critical information for planning,
engineering, asset management and operations
associated with every transportation mode at all
levels of government and administration. A
centralized geographic information system provides
transportation professionals with the IT framework
for maintaining and deploying data and applications
throughout every aspect of the transportation
infrastructure life cycle: planning, designing,
surveying, construction, operations, and
maintenance.
The seminar on Utilities and Transportation will
describe the use of geospatial technology in
managing public utility services and transport
infrastructure, which include:-
Electricity and Telecommunications
- Gas, Water and Sewage
- Roads and Highways
- Railways
- Waterways and Bridges
- Airports
